Welcome

After reading blogs for a number of years I have decided to stop being a 'lurker' and to start contributing.

I have been in this industry for over 25 years and still remain passionate about it. But what I see today is a fragmented profession, with many divisions: SOA vs. OOS, managers vs. technicians, developers vs. testers, agile vs. waterfall, .NET vs. Java, and of course the biggest division of all - business vs. IT.

There are many IT blogs each focusing on the authors speciality - web services, processes, and so on. There is precious little about how the various technologies, disciplines and methods work together. What is needed is a unified view of IT.

Although IT is already awash with different kinds of architect, Enterprise, Solution, Infrastructure, Information, Business to name but a few, I have yet to come across an approach the looks at IT as a whole. This is what I aim to do in this blog.

That does not mean that I won't take the odd diversion into technical details. As you will hopefully find out, I have an interest spanning the breadth and depth of IT, so don't be surprised if a blog on ROI is followed by one on .NET streaming APIs.

But above all, the vision of the 'Holistic' architect is to put the various pieces of IT together to produce an integrated IT function that is not just a service to the business, but is a core part of it.

I hope you enjoy the ride; I look forward to your comments.
